You may be happy walking in step with things-as-they-are, you may well wish more people walked to the same beat. But I can guarantee that things-as-they-are will not last, and you may not be happy with the changes - may wish to be non-compliant or downright uncooperative. And, as a biologist, I can state that the best overarching life-strategy of coping with change is diversity - different niches, different diets, different philosophies...


We are much too close to being ruled by a monoculture here in the US. The more diverse society actually is, the more true and functional options people have, the more resilient the resulting culture is going to be. And I suspect we're going to need all the resiliency we can muster in the coming years.

We need to have the option to do different and unplanned-for things, need to be able to dissent, be independent, not be monitored/surveilled, boxed into the false dichotomy of the "right" or "wrong" choice.
