Nov. 22nd, 2009 07:26 pmWe get a lot of magazines at work. Some of that is through fundraisers for the schools of the various doctors' spawn; some is because the publishers send us freebies because they think we have a waiting room to stock...
We got a couple free issues of the December issue of Real Simple. One of the secretaries gushed over it as being a great magazine (I'd never been that impressed with it as a whole), mentioned that it was from the "Martha Stewart people"... and the little light went on. No wonder I didn't find it appealing!
So, Martha Stewart. People love her or love to hate her, which camp are you in?
If you love her, tell me why? I just don't get the appeal.
If you are in the love to hate her camp, tell me why? (Questions of taste aside... I'm having trouble articulating what sets me off... And, on second thought, go ahead and critique her taste as well. I could use the entertainment.)
(Some of it is the pointless consumerism, yes; some of it is the sense of entitlement and privilege that seems so utterly unexamined. And some of it is the buh?factor that allows "Great Gifts for under $50" to coexist side by side with the "must-have look-makers" of $600+ booties and $300 leather skirts that are touted as being practical..... What else?)
