dammit dammit dammit!
Jan. 14th, 2013 10:39 amI had a huge post written about Aaron Swartz, with nearly a dozen links. And my computer ate it.
It's gone, irretrievable. Yeah, sure, there's a metaphor in there; I don't want to hear it.
Overview: when The Economist and the Wall Street Journal pay attention to the death of a 26 year old, it means something. When luminaries as varied as Cory Doctorow and Susie Bright and Larry Lessig have things to say about the man and his passing, it means something. I can't read the tributes from the people who knew him, loved him, were frustrated beyond words by him without tearing up; please let this mean more than, "we lost another one of the good guys".
Share, dammit. Sharing is a moral imperative. Make something and pass it on. Pass on the knowledge of how you made it. If someone gives you something, make it better and pass it on. Open source and open access are absolutely necessary to progress and innovation, make it happen however you can.
