Got the Shaker Workshops catalog in the mail yesterday... I'm amazed at how much of the stuff in the catalog is imported.
Rugs, for example: from a quick skim of the catalog, I think something like two out of ten rugs (either woven or hooked) are made in the USA... The issue here isn't imported goods as such; it's just... are there really Shaker Workshops (TM) overseas somewhere? If not, "Shaker" my ass; I've clipped a few pretty pictures for reference and the rest of the catalog is going in the recycling bin.
(And, if so? The idea of exporting *that* particular slice of Idealized Americana Culture, where it might be landing, and what it might be supplanting... is just ...brainbreaking.)
