The fascinating stuff first:

an oldie-but-goodie that came from: neurophilosophy (and, yes, neurophilosophy goes on the reading list next to neuroanthropology.)

Cool stuff for San francisco history geeks

The political:
Who's well traveled? I think the biggest surprise for me was Alaska's percentage...

Alaska's not a surprise--smaller population than San Francisco, and they've got another country closer than any other US state. Having a passport in case of ever wanting to drive into Canada seems reasonable.

And, wow... protest as a tool of the middle class, esp. students. Have to ponder that some more.

From my source in the NYPD, there has been protester violence, and while the response has been (in her opinion) an overreaction, there has been violence from protesters vs. cops and possibly civilians. Also, like here, they have a "professional protester" class of trust-fund crunchy types who probably got their wealth indirectly from Wall Street via their parents; it's not actual poor folks out there for the most part. And I have heard Black Bloc is active there now.
